How Music Relieves Stress, Increases Focus and Heals the Soul

Why is Music so Powerful?

It has been said countless times that Music is food for the soul. What does this mean exactly? Music provides essentials to our mind, body and emotions. In essence; music helps boost your mood. It increases drive and focus. Music inspires creativity and brings peace to the mind, body and soul.

Studies show that music releases the dopamine brain chemical that has a ‘feel good’ initiator.

Research has certainly proven that music is beneficial to your health. That is especially true for anxiety, stress, and bereavement. It’s important to realize each Mental Health condition we face affects us in many ways. Particularly contributing to our mental, emotional, and physical health and wellbeing. What music does is so special because it connects with us internally, often triggering a response.

Music sees you where you are and meets you there. In your own space with just you and the music, the music acts as a healer and supporter. Especially allowing you to express yourself. Music brings you rest, and gives you the opportunity to pause and take time for yourself.

We often need music to disconnect from the world and unwind. Having time to yourself is of course important to recharge your batteries. Use this time for self-reflection and take some well-earned rest to relieve stress.

Music has the power to break through your walls. This can be through invoking memories associated to your situation and feelings. Also, it can inspire you into action. This increases your focus and drive by music encouraging and empowering you. There is an unspoken understanding that music has with your soul and when it speaks to you it changes you.

Has music ever healed your soul?

I remember times when I felt most alone, music was a source of comfort to me. I found that music helped me to sleep, it helped to reduce my anxiety and calm me down. There were different kinds of music that resonated with me. Sounds that stilled me and brought peace and comfort to my soul. Then there was alternative Christian music that connected with me on a spiritual level.

I found that music had a way of speaking that communicated to deeper parts of myself that needed reaching.

Overall, I believe music means something to everyone. For example, different cultures, to decades we grew up in, memories we cherish and our backgrounds. Music finds you and brings you back. It heals you because it lives in you and stirs up your emotions, memories and speaks to your innermost being.

“Music doesn’t get in. It is already in. Music simply uncovers what is there, makes you feel emotions that you didn’t necessarily know you had inside you, and runs around waking them all up. A rebirth of sorts.”
