10 Proven Ways to Improve Your Mental Health:

  • Healthy diet – because your mama taught you to eat your greens! It’s essential to take care of ourselves and make sure our bodies get the nutrition we need. We can maintain or even improve our level of fitness and cognitive functions through what we eat. What we eat affects both our bodies and our minds.
  • Exercise – being active helps us maintain a healthy lifestyle. In fact, it boosts our thinking and reactions, making us faster, more agile, and stronger. Exercise also improves our mental well-being, preventing us from feeling aloof and idle.

Examples of what I use:

  • Creative activities – Creativity is encouraged from a young age as part of our development. Additionally, it helps us explore new ideas and express our uniqueness through planning, organizing, building, and crafting. Creative activities give us a sense of accomplishment and goals to improve upon. They also allow us to share our passion with others in the community.
  • Nurture relationships – Some relationships are good whereas others are not. Bad relationships should be ended, while good ones should be nurtured. Healthy relationships bring love, support, and encouragement. Focus on building trust and understanding over time through open conversations and respect.
  • Journaling – Journaling helps me process my thoughts and feelings daily. It’s a way to let them out, understand my situation, and initiate change. Also, it allows me to express myself without getting angry at others or myself. Reviewing my writing increases and helps to improve my self-awareness.

Examples of what I used:

  • Giving to others – Firstly, when we realize there are people struggling in the world, our perspective changes. We see that some people need help and we can provide it because we have what they lack. Moreover, helping others shows us our own ability for kindness and empathy. It reminds us of their struggles and lets us be a source of encouragement. We can show them there is still hope and that they too have something to give.
  • Explore nature – The world is for exploration. Nature offers relaxation and relief. In nature, we feel free to reflect, meditate, and rest. For example, as we walk through the woods or go on a safari, we have the opportunity to discover nature and connect through our senses to enjoy the beauty around us.
  • Meditation – helps us focus and breathe. Sometimes we need to slow down and close our eyes, stepping away from the world. Meditation can center us, improve our cognitive functions and reduce stress.
  • Rest/sleep – why… Having a good night’s rest is beneficial for cognitive functions. It also helps to regulate your mood and emotional resilience.
  • Sensory items – the use of sensory items, such as gadgets help people with Autism to focus and connect. Or household items like water features, paintings, plants and music, creates an atmosphere of tranquility. This atmosphere allows the mind to dream and imagine.
